Fourth of July Memories

December 17, 2013 By Tom

This post is part of Think Kit by SmallBox, today’s prompt: “Share a moment that stands out. Was it moving, or awkward, or infuriating, or ecstatic, or ______? Who was with you? Where were you?”

Let’s talk about the 4th of July.  One of my favorite holidays, Jim’s birthday, a reason to blow stuff up and light things on fire.  This 4th of July was the first annual Hanley July 4th Party.  It was actually a 2 day shin-dig, starting on the 4th with a ton of family and friends over at the house enjoying the deck with foods and lots of beer.  The 5th of July involved flying in Maryland Blue Crabs, a giant pulled pork on the Big Green Egg and a day of relaxation.

There was a moment on both of those days where I looked around and realized how fortunate I was to be surrounded by awesome people.  My family (all of you–you know exactly what I mean), my friends, Jim’s Family, teaching my “nephews” how to play yard games, great friends, people i trusted….exactly how things are supposed to be.

Plus, seeing the dogs interact with live crabs and coolers of beer is always an amusing situation.

It’s the memories like that which make me smile a whole lot about my 2013 summer.

how can you not laugh at this?
