Laughter is Feeling Alive

December 13, 2013 By Tom

This post is part of Think Kit by SmallBox, today’s prompt: “When did you laugh out loud? Share a funny or humorous story from this year.”

“My whole life is a comedy”

I’ve laughed out loud more in the last few months than I think I ever have.  It’s most likely the combo of realizing that laughter is the best medicine and quite simply, laughter makes even the most ridiculous situations a bit better.

I’ve laughed as I’ve drank coffee, beer and wine.  I’ve laughed till I’ve cried at 10AM and 11PM.  I’ve laughed when it was the only inappropriate response to a situation.  I laughed at the foolishness of the last 3 minutes of Dexter.  I laughed at most moments while watching Shameless and Californication.  I’ve laughed with family.  I’ve laughed with friends.  I’ve laughed while traveling all over the world.  I’ve laughed while sitting right here in Indianapolis.  I’ve laughed while out for a bike ride.  I’ve laughed while out for a run.  I’ve laughed while sitting at the top of a mountain.  I’ve laughed while doing stupid things.  I’ve more than once laughed and said “watch this” as I do something clearly unsafe.  I’ve laughed at my best friend’s wedding.  I’ve just been fortunate to laugh.

When I look back at 2013, I can’t tell you what I laughed at, but I assure you it was worthy of both my time and effort.

When you stop laughing, you’re dead.  That’s the reality of it all.
