I Did Something Stupid…I Agreed to Run

February 13, 2014 By Tom

Anyone who knows me knows I hate to run, give me 2 wheels and pedals any single day of the week.

But, I decided to challenge myself in 2014 and therefore, I’m going to do just that.  I agreed to run a (hilly) half marathon down in Bloomington at the beginning of April.  It’s going to (really) hurt, and it’s only about 7 weeks (oh shit!) away.

I had a buddy who was looking to recruit some people to run this half with him–and I foolishly agreed.  I always seem to foolishly agree when it comes to running.

Now, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the weather has sucked to run in recently, which means I’m effectively starting from scratch with training for this thing.  I also refuse to run on the hamster wheel known as a treadmill, so I’m being needy and demanding good weather for the next 7 weeks so I can log in some miles.

My last long run was 9 miles, in Santa Monica, on December 28th.  It’s been a while.

I’ve run 1 1/2 marathon, a month before my wedding, and it was suicide style (I hadn’t run in 4 months previous to this, and I was a bit hungover after an evening of Triple de Ripples from Brugge).  I also ran a 1/4 trail marathon the day after getting back from St. Lucia last August.

This is going to suck.  But I’m up for a challenge.
